JOB SUMMARY

The Philadelphia Department of Public Health (PDPH), Division of Disease Control (DDC) is tasked with the operation and maintenance of PhilaVax, the Immunization Information System (IIS) for the City of Philadelphia. PhilaVax’s primary mission is to collect and maintain immunization records for the City of Philadelphia. Information collected by PhilaVax is utilized by providers within the City and by partner programs within PDPH. The DDC uses IIS data to help prepare for public health emergencies and provide education to the community on how to stay safe and healthy.

The IIS Special Projects Manager’s primary role within the IIS is to oversee grants awarded to the IIS from CDC or other issuing institution. Their core duties require them to track the progress of grants, in terms of deliverables and updates. They must ensure all items are delivered to CDC or other issuing institution as required. They must also provide updates to IIS and Immunization leadership as required or upon request. In addition to IIS grant tracking, the IIS Special Project’s Manager may be given a special project to manage, such as the implementation of a tertiary system for use by IIS or immunization staff. A qualified candidate will be a highly organized, self-starter, who is equally comfortable working with a team or independently. They will have excellent communication skills and will be able to communicate complex data sets in a clear and concise manner to a wide variety of stakeholders. A functional knowledge of relational databases is required. A working knowledge of, SQL, SAS, Powerbi, Python, and or Java is preferred, but not required. This position may require occasional travel, weekend, and afterhours work. Candidates should expect to be called to perform specialized duties as needed for any public health emergency. This position is funded for 1 year but may continue as funding permits. All candidates must be fully vaccinated and boosted against COVID-19. Candidate must be a U.S. Citizen or authorized to work in the U.S.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Responsibilities/Duties

  • Complete IIS grant work as directed
  • Lead and manage the IIS Support Analyst
  • Work with IIS vendor, and IIS Interoperability team to develop pilot PowerBi reports and dashboards
  • Work with partner programs and Deputy IIS Manager to develop provider report cards.
  • Perform ongoing analysis on 4:3:1:3:3:1:4 series completion rate among 19-35 month old cohort
  • Isolate and analyze refusal data from pediatric providers
  • Work with IIS Interoperability team to improve refusal reporting to IIS
  • Work with partner programs to provide data driven solutions for gaps in 4:3:1:3:3:1:4 series
  • Completion rate in 19–35-month age cohort
  • Perform quarterly process review of reports and cohort analysis.
  • Report refusal data to CDC on a weekly/month basis.
  • Provide CDC or other grant issuing institution and IIS leadership with regular grant updates.
  • Lead monthly grant update calls with CDC or other grant issuing institution.
  • Other duties as required.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in IT, Health IT, education (with an emphasis on IT), or related field.    OR
  • 1 year experience in IIS, Epidemiology, or related field with a bachelor’s degree from an accredited 4-year university.

Skills/Experience

  • Excellent written and oral communications.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office suite.
  • Willingness to learn new technical skills.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Excellent organizational ability.
  • Able to plan, execute, and complete projects within a limited timeframe and budget.
  • Preferred, basic understanding of project management.
  • Preferred, working knowledge of SQL and SAS
  • Preferred, familiarity with PowerBi
  • Preferred, working knowledge of Python and or Java
  • Preferred, 1 year of experience in IIS, Epidemiology, or other related field.
  • Preferred, knowledge of the Pediatric immunization schedule

Work Environment:

Standard office setting with extended periods at workstation and periodic use of office equipment.

Position Type and Work Schedule:

Full time position, typical hours are Monday through Friday 8:30 am to 5:00 pm. Flex office schedule options available with supervisor approval.

Travel:

Some travel may be necessary provided that public health guidance allows it.

Physical Demands:

Must be able to lift 25lbs.

Salary and Benefits
