Philadelphia Health Corps Members

All individuals who join the Philadelphia Health Corps are interested in community service in order to improve the quality of life for themselves and others. Most are planning to have a career in the health or allied health field. Some members come from the local Philadelphia community and others come from across the country. Members are at least 18 years old and must have a high school diploma or GED. Many members are college graduates with intentions to continue their education upon completion of their term of service.

While serving in the Philadelphia Health Corps, members receive training, coaching in personal and professional development, and hands-on experience in professional health-related settings. Mentoring by medical and social work staff at the PHC placement sites exposes members to career options and further develops their sensitivity to community strengths and needs and their interest in and commitment to pursuing a health professions career.
