National Health Corps

The National Health Corps is an AmeriCorps National Direct program funded by the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS).  The Health Federation of Philadelphia serves as the host organization for both the National Health Corps (NHC) and one of its four operating sites, the Philadelphia Health Corps.  The NHC currently has 70 members serving in Chicago, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and North Florida.  Created in 1994, the mission of the NHC is to increase access to health care services for underserved communities, to promote the health and safety of each NHC community, and to foster our members’ pursuit of health related careers and an ethic of service.  Members serve at community-based health related organizations and provide services such as health education, community outreach, health insurance and pharmaceutical assistance enrollment, and other supportive services aimed at increasing access to health services and health information.

The Health Federation is the Parent Organization for the NHC, providing programmatic and fiscal oversight, technical assistance and support to all four NHC operating sites.
